Erik is attending the seminar to learn more about what else he can do to help Jedi reach his full potential and Jedi will be coming along as one of our demo dogs.

'The Mouse' is still working on getting comfortable with dogs and people outside on her walks but she's getting so much better at it thanks to the consistent efforts of her new family. At home, getting comfortable takes a lot less effort- just a little support is all that's needed.

Translating your French Bulldog's behavior into plain English

This one-day seminar presented by Jennifer Lea Reed CPDT-KA, co-owner of the Big Apple Dog School, explores the sometimes-wacky world of the French Bulldog, from deciphering their unusual play style to interpreting what’s really going on when they balk, scream and lunge. Appropriate for the first-time owner to more seasoned guardians facing the challenges of fostering, this seminar uses a combination of lectures, and live demonstrations with French Bulldogs to get to the heart of Frenchie behavior and, when necessary, effectively change it. This event is made possible by a collaboration between Club Chien, The French Bulldog Rescue Network and the French Bulldog Club of America Charitable Fund.

Sessions:

10am-11am

The Magic of Motivation – How does your Frenchie really learn? Hint: it’s not always about food.

11am-12pm

Frenchie 101 – the truth about diet, exercise, medical vs. behavioral issues, drugs, crates, boredom and basic manners.

12pm-1pm

International Diplomacy – Socialization: what it really is and how to get it – dog run behavior; multi-dog households; children.

1pm – 1:30

Working Lunch Break (ongoing Q&A session)

1:30-2:30pm

Fixing Common Problems – pulling on leash, housetraining, interaction with other dogs and children, resource guarding, destructive behaviors.

2:30-4:00pm

What’s Really Going On? – Diagnosing behavioral issues (two live, real-time behavior evaluations).

4:00-6:00pm

Behavior Modification – Demonstrations of appropriate training techniques for larger Frenchie problems, including dog-dog aggression and resource guarding (three to four live demonstrations).

*This is not a meet-up. Please do not bring your dog unless he or she is being used as a demo dog. If you want to nominate your Frenchie, please let us know when you register. We are looking for dogs that exhibit: dog-dog aggression, resource guarding, leash pulling, fear of a particular object (umbrellas, skate boards, etc), or any unusual problem.

How do I use Paypal?
You need to set up an account with Paypal and then 'send money' using that service. Here's a video on how to do that. Then use the confirmation number to complete the registration form. If you are unable to or don't want to set up an account on paypal you can alternatively click on the alternatives for or let us know on the registration form and we'll contact you with other suggestions.

What else is there in that neighborhood?
Happy Paws is very close to Soho and the main shopping strip of Broadway between Houston and Canal. It is also right on the border of the East Village and the Lower East Side where there are some great restaurants.

Can I bring my dog if my dog is NOT being used as a demo dog?
You can make arrangements for your dog to be at daycare at the Happy Paws facility where the seminar is being held, while you are attending the seminar (and after too if you want to do some shopping/socializing) - however- you will need to make those arrangements yourself and the facility requires that your dog is up to date with shots/vaccinations and has been evaluated by them - see their requirements and their daily rates. Please contact them separately to make these arrangements.

What arrangements should I make if my dog IS being used as a demo dog?
Dogs being brought into the seminar area do not have to meet the requirements above but will require to be able to spend time either in a crate or on a lap.

Demo dogs for behavior modification/evaluation should only get half their usual breakfast, please bring the other half to the seminar. Please also bring stuffed kongs for them while they are crated.
